Kaytranada, MØ, TOKiMONSTA headline free new IKEA digital festival

IKEA Festival
Words by Lucas Radbourne

Yes, you read correctly. Swedish homeware megastore IKEA are hosting their first music festival online.

The furniture retailer will livestream all of the artists’ performances live from within their own homes, no doubt offering plenty of opportunity for product placement.

The festival will go for 24 hours and is heavy on the electronic spectrum, with festivities kicking off 4pm on September 16. In addition to live music, the festival will also feature a variety of talks, as well as design and food features.

“At a time when so many Australians understand the importance of their home, we’re excited to be able to bring a new energy into people’s lives and spaces through this 24-hour cultural experience,” IKEA retail design manager, Christine Gough said.

“There’s something for everyone at IKEA Festival, and to make it even more relevant for Aussies, we’ll be sharing a range of tips and tricks from our local IKEA Australia designers on how to enhance different areas of their homes.”

IKEA retail’s communications director, Olivia Ross Wilson, also said it will be a reflection on the current pandemic conditions.

“Life at home has taken on a whole new meaning for every one of us over the past year,” Wilson said.

“By being virtually connected, we can open the door to many more lives around the world – exploring how we all live, celebrating individuality and creativity.”

The entire program has been reasonably cryptic so far but will livestream on the IKEA site here.
