Junior Boys: It’s All True

While their fourth album, It’s All True, does boast its fair share of danceable tracks, it’s the slower, more sensual songs that stand out. Jeremy Greenspan’s breathy vocals are at their seductive best on the hypnotic ballad Playtime, but also later in the album for twinkling glitch-pop ballads The Reservoir and ep.

There’s soft-rock earnestness at play on these songs, but the earnest sentiments diffuse the cool, icy electronics to great effect. Those wanting to just get on the dance-floor can look toYou’ll Improve Me and the lengthy closer Banana Ripple for inspiration.

The album is track-listed so that it splices between the two styles/tempos, so you don’t quite know whether you’re on uppers or downers. It’s a little disorientating at first, but embrace it – it’s all part of the Junior Boys’ pleasantly left-field world.
