The opening weekend (12-14 September) will focus on celebrating 15 years of Junction Arts Festival, featuring anniversary events, community gatherings and reflective moments honouring the festival’s history. The second weekend (19-21 September) delivers the signature festival experience with bold contemporary art, live music, immersive performances and vibrant late-night events.
A major highlight for Junction Arts Festival 2025 will be the Tasmanian premiere of Airship Orchestra by internationally renowned art and technology studio ENESS. The installation features 16 towering inflatable figures, some reaching six metres tall, spanning 500 square metres. These galactic beings create a world of volumetric sound, pulsing light and playful interaction.
Founded in 1997 and led by artist Nimrod Weis, ENESS specialises in interactive new media art that blends sculpture, design, software, music, textiles and storytelling. Airship Orchestra includes a generative score composed for a multi-person choir, blinking LED eyes and an atmosphere of wonder for both day and night experiences.
The festival recently received bronze recognition in the Festivals & Events category at the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. This national acknowledgement reflects the dedication of the team, artists, volunteers, partners and audiences who contribute to Junction Arts Festival’s success.
Events Tasmania has provided $1.755 million funding to deliver the event until 2027, with additional $450,000 allocated for 2025 and 2026 to enable the expanded two-weekend program.
