Joel Creasey @ Max Watt’s

You know that one friend in your social group that you love having a drink with because you know, without a doubt, you’re going to get some hot goss and bitch about basically everybody you know? Well, Joel Creasey is that friend – for the whole of Melbourne.

In his latest instalment, The Crown Prince, the 25-year-old comic touches on all the latest tidbits of his life and like all the best gossips, he leaves little to the imagination. From celebrity encounters to breakups, Creasey’s ruthless commentary is not what you’d call conniving, but instead, comedy gold. Given an all-access pass, audiences can expect to settle in for a night of scandal, salacious secrets and of course, some sex talk.

Starting the solo show with a video montage featuring various moments throughout his career, it wasn’t long until Creasey had the entire room giggling – all before he had even graced the stage. From his appearances on TV shows including I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and A League Of Their Own, to his countless stand-up sets, Joel Creasey has been crowned one of Melbourne’s most energetic and enjoyably erratic entertainers.

Creasey appeared on stage steadfastly assuring the audience that while we were all safe because we had bought tickets, “everyone outside these four walls is fucked!”. As the young talent divulged the details of his latest exchange with former Playboy playmate, Kendra Wilkinson, his ‘OMG’ attitude was in full form. Moving onto the tale of his tiff with Australia’s own Russell Crowe, Creasey’s wit is self-assured and supported with killer confidence. Nevertheless, it’s his self-deprecating humour that allows listeners to feel instantly comfortable in his presence. Often discussing quite controversial or confrontational topics, Creasey’s ability to add light to any situation is incomparable.

Touching on his time at the 2015 ARIA Awards, he went on to discuss a rather awkward red carpet moment with an X-Factor star and his uncontrollable obsession with Tina Arena, as well as her extensive acceptance speech. While Creasey is still seemingly star-struck by various celebrities, there’s no denying that his dream of becoming famous is slowly but surely becoming a reality – as proven by his list of free things he has received lately, the best of which is a crummy candle.

The most emotive section of the show is when Creasey details the events leading up to and after his break-up with Australian actor and writer, Jeffery Self. Let’s just say, it did not end well– resulting in the best story in his show. From threesomes to cheating, there is no shame and certainly no secrets as Creasey cleverly depicts how and why the pair split, including the role of a third party who will remain unnamed. However, even in the most tragic of circumstances, he seems to find a comedic element, spinning it for our own entertainment, as well as his.

Checking his watch, Creasey hurried to finish his final story in record time, as if we were all sharing one giant taxi ride home after a night out and it was approaching his destination. Leaving the audience with the image of his latest sexual encounter, Joel Creasey’s stories are relatable and ridiculously regaling. Exaggerated or not, it simply doesn’t matter, it will have you soaking up every juicy detail to the very last second.
