JAZZ: On Thursday, JULY 9, 2026 JMQ Ensemble features versatile songstress, ANASTASIA ASPELING with outstanding saxophonist, JAYDEN BLOCKLEY at the welcoming Golden Gate Hotel, South Melbourne at 7pm. with Tony Floyd (drums), Nick Haywood (double bass), Steve Sedergreen (piano) + John M. (horns).
ANASTASIA began playing with band-leader John in the 1980s as an admired, upcoming jazz artist, with a soulful voice. After singing in Melbourne, she was offered opportunities to tour internationally, settling in Sydney, where she worked with numerous bands and ensembles, led her own jazz residency and appeared on many recordings. Since returning to Melbourne, she reconnected with John’s bands and now is a featured singer in both his jazz and soul outfits.
JAYDEN is one of the stellar talents of the younger generation. He graduated from the prestigious James Morrison Academy in Mount Gambier, and was awarded the medal of Academic Excellence amongst his competitive cohort. Subsequently he has freelanced, recorded, and joined the all-star RAAF band. He impressed the JMQ Ensemble from the first note he played and is now on regular rotation with other guest artists.
