Let’s face it, the last album from The xx was a bit of a snoozer. I literally can’t remember any tracks from it. I can’t even remember its name. But here is Jamie xx, following on from solid standalone tracks released last year with a track that sounds like what The xx LP2 should’ve sounded like, with a guest turn from bandmate Romy on vocals. It achieves a large-scale intimacy, the logical progression from The xx’s debut full-length, resplendent with choral explosions while loaded with nuanced tonal character. This is memorable.
