Boronia Station is getting a massive upgrade, including a landscaped plaza, a new crossing and more.
The Allan Labor Government has unveiled the first designs for the upcoming Boronia Station precinct upgrade, promising a brighter, greener and more accessible space for locals surrounding this Melbourne train station. With works set to ramp up next year, the public is being invited to share their thoughts on the plans before construction gets underway.
One of the standout features of the upgrade is the creation of a new, landscaped plaza connecting Boronia Station to the popular Dorset Road shopping precinct. The plaza will offer landscaping, seating and lighting, making it an inviting public space for locals. It will also include a new pedestrian crossing to make crossing Dorset Road safer and easier for everyone.

“This is the biggest investment by any Government into Boronia in a generation, it’s what locals asked for and I’m stoked that we’re going to deliver an incredible outcome that Boronia absolutely needs and deserves,” says Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor.
“I know the community can’t wait to see the project complete, as it is going to completely transform the heart of our suburb and improve accessibility for people using the station.”
In addition to the plaza, there will be significant upgrades to the station itself. Improvements to the platform include new furniture, shelters and toilets, plus a revamped passenger waiting room.
The ticket office and Protective Services office will also be relocated to enhance station access, and the station concourse will be widened to improve the flow of foot traffic. New canopies will be added over station entrances, and a refreshed pick-up and drop-off area will be built along Lupton Way.
All these changes are part of the broader vision for Boronia’s future, with better pedestrian connections and new green spaces designed to support the growing community. The improvements will also help to accommodate the increasing number of new homes being built in the area.
The Boronia Station upgrade follows the recent completion of major works along other Melbourne train station projects, including the Lilydale Line, including the removal of level crossings and the creation of a boom gate-free zone between Ferntree Gully and the city. The Level Crossing Removal Project, which aims to remove 110 level crossings by 2030, is transforming the way people travel across Melbourne, making the commute safer and more efficient.
The Boronia Station upgrades are expected to be completed in 2026, with the community’s input playing a key role in shaping the final design.
