IMAX Melbourne is releasing Oppenheimer with a bang. The theatre is one of 30 cinemas globally to be screening Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER on IMAX 1570 Film and the only theatre in the Southern Hemisphere to have received a film print.

“IMAX [1570] Film brings images to life. From resolution and colour to sharpness and overall quality, there is nothing compared to using IMAX Film cameras. The IMAX Film format is the Gold Standard of motion picture photography.”

– Christopher Nolan

The battle for IMAX screenings has seen Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise fighting for space on the giant screen, with the action star trying to secure more IMAX and premium format screens for his much-anticipated M:I 7 release, against Nolan’s exclusivity deal with IMAX theatres.

IMAX is currently leading Australia’s Oppenheimer’s pre-sales with more than 13,000 tickets sold, having generated more than $5M across the seven Nolan films released at the theatre.

Oppenheimer’s pre-sale success continues the single screen’s upward trajectory, with IMAX Melbourne recording a 26% increase in its 2022 admissions compared to 2019 pre-COVID figures.

“Demand to watch movies in a premium format has grown since the pandemic and Victorian audiences have a chance to experience the best and brightest presentation of OPPENHEIMER at IMAX Melbourne,” says IMAX Melbourne Acting General Manager, Jeremy Fee.

Nolan shot Oppenheimer on IMAX 1570 Film cameras and much of the movie will expand to fill IMAX Melbourne’s seven-storey screen, offering audiences 40% more image than standard cinemas.

“We are the only place in Australia to see Oppenheimer as Nolan truly intends,” says Fee.

Oppenheimer opens at IMAX Melbourne on Thursday July 20 with exclusive presentations on IMAX 1570 Film. Tickets are on sale now: imaxmelbourne.com.au.
