Kicking off on January 12 exclusively at IMAX Melbourne, the inaugural BBIFF includes films specifically curated to showcase IMAX Melbourne's epic surround sound and immersive giant screen.

Many feature IMAX’s exclusive expanded aspect ratios of 1.9 and 1.43 (which fills the entire seven-storey screen). Highlights include Oppenheimer and The Dark Knight Trilogy both presented on Australia’s only IMAX 1570 film prints which have a native resolution of up to 16K, the highest resolution film format available.

IMAX Melbourne’s Oppenheimer re-release is coming off the back of a stellar season, becoming the highest-grossing movie in the cinema’s history with over 66,000 tickets sold and 171 sold-out sessions.

IMAX Melbourne has also programmed an epic double-feature Opening Night Gala featuring Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, plus the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, Avatar: The Way Of Water 3D, Tron: Legacy 3D, and more.

“BBIFF is bringing back classic movies that need to be witnessed on the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere. We’ve put together an impressive line-up of the best and biggest trilogies, double-headers, and special one-off screenings.” – Jeremy Fee, IMAX Melbourne General Manager.

“I think IMAX is the best film format that was ever invented. It’s the gold standard and what other technology has to match up to,” Christopher Nolan, acclaimed director of Oppenheimer, Interstellar, Dunkirk and more.

The Best Biggest IMAX Film Festival is running from January 12 – mid-Feb exclusively at IMAX Melbourne. Tickets will go on sale Thursday December 21 at 10am for IMAX Big League members and 11am for the general public.
