The Alliance Française French Film Festival returns for its 35th instalment of its diverse and unique programme of moving French cinema, from a range of film makers, genres and styles.
In a celebration of French cinema that has become a cultural cornerstone in Australia, the Alliance Française French Film Festival (AF FFF) is set to dazzle audiences once again as it marks its 35th edition from 5 March to 21 April 2024.
As the largest showcase of French cinema outside of France and a significant cultural event in Australia, the festival promises a diverse and enchanting programme that will captivate film enthusiasts across the country.

Ahead of the official kick-off, the AF FFF has offered a sneak peek into its 2024 programme, unveiling a selection of must-see films that will grace screens in various locations. The festival’s opening night promises a spectacular treat with the Australian premiere of “The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan,” a thrilling adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic novel. Directed by Martin Bourboulon, this double blockbuster film production features an all-star cast, offering a fresh take on the timeless tale with humour, romance, and pulse-pounding action.
The festival’s diverse offerings include special screenings such as the uproarious comedy “The President’s Wife (Bernadette),” starring French cinema legend Catherine Deneuve. Directed by Léa Domenach, this film presents a satirical portrayal of an unexpected feminist icon, blending fact and fiction in a light-hearted campaign to restore the reputation of the first lady.
For those with a taste for culinary delights, “The Taste of Things (La passion de Dodin Bouffant)” is a not-to-be-missed screening. This sensual adaptation of Marcel Rouff’s classic novel, directed by Tran Anh Hung, combines cooking with romance, offering a delectable tribute to French cuisine.
Other standout films in the festival lineup include the Cannes Film Festival hit “The Animal Kingdom (Le règne animal),” the gripping drama “All Your Faces (Je verrai toujours vos visages),” the lavish historical drama “Jeanne Du Barry,” and the comedy about reignited desire in the modern age, “Iris and the Men (Iris et les hommes).”
Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance Française French Film Festival has grown into the largest festival dedicated to contemporary French films outside of France. With over 176,000 attendees in 2023, the festival has become one of the largest cultural paid events in Australia. The 35th edition of the AF FFF will screen across multiple locations in Australia from 5 March to 21 April.
