From his start in life as a child soldier in war-torn southern Sudan, Jal went on to become an acclaimed speaker, performer, actor, campaigner, recording artist and peace ambassador around the world.
He’s since addressed the UN, the US Congress and has performed for Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
In addition to his music and speaking, Emmanuel co-founded ‘The Key is E’, a social business and charity channelling the power of education, entrepreneurialism and creativity to impact social change. He also founded Gua Africa, an organisation devoted to promoting education in Africa and providing education to children and young adults who would otherwise be denied this opportunity.
Now, Emmanuel Jal will appear in Melbourne in conversation with Dumbo Feather to share his story through words and performance, discussing how music, storytelling and empathy can change the world and contribute to peace on both a local and global level.
