Bright Face is a slow, melodic record sung in duet by singer/songwriters Eva Popov and Georgia Harvey. It’s a sad journey over 12 tracks, with a whole lot of melancholy piano and drums backing it up.
Opening track Woke Up With The Feeling really sets the tone for the rest of the piece, and as the album opens up it quickly becomes evident that this is a work that’s meant to be listened to from front to back.
While the slow pace of the album can make it hard to sustain full attention, it picks up a little at track seven, with album favourite Hello Lover. The pace then re-settles as the sad story ends against the soft sounding landscape.
Bright Face is a bit of an acquired taste, but what it tries to do, it does very well. While it won’t be making any appearances on any party or singalong playlists, if you feel like lying down with some headphones and losing yourself in a sad journey with some gentle melodies then definitely give this a listen. Fair warning though, probably not best to listen to it after a break-up.
