BLAKTIVISM is part of Always Live, a 17-day state-wide celebration of contemporary music in Victoria, supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria.

Over the years since BLAKTIVISM’s powerful beginning in 2021, the event has been key in celebrating and centering Blak cultures and Blak activism in this country. Assembling diverse, spirited, First Nations musicians, BLAKTIVISM, now in its fourth year, has become a platform for reconnecting with ancient song and a union of pioneers and emerging voices of First Nations music and art.

The theme this year, Holding Koorie Space, honours the hard work done by Koorie families to hold onto their land and their voice. Then event will showcase their bravery and dedication to keeping their history alive through song, ceremony, visual art and dance.

This year I’ve brought together some of my favourite people for BLAKTIVISM 2024. They’re gonna blow the roof off Hamer Hall while celebrating the wins of Koorie Artivists, standing together as one mob in the spirit of Blak Musik!” said BLAKTIVISM Artistic Director and Performer Deline Briscoe.

BLAKTIVISM will open with the Kulin Nation Songwomen with ceremonial song in tribute to their matriarchal ancestors. From there, Bart Willoughby the co-founder of the legendary rock band No Fixed Address, renowned Yolgnu artist Yirrmal, rapper Tasman Keith and vocal powerhouses Deline Briscoe and Suga Cane Mamas come together for a collective set.

With them are Yung Warriors, Selwyn Burns, Robbie Thorpe, Brothers in Arms and Sprigga Mek, performing together for a powerful night of communal musical performance.

The night will conclude with a energetic set by Yolngu artist Baker Boy, whose  music and deep cultural roots have captivated the Australian music scene and are sure to captivate the entire room at BLAKTIVISM 2024.
