Gormley’s Memes Come Together In Melbourne

Gormley’s Memes are a series of tiny sculptures he’s been making since 2007 and this is the first time the completed set have been shown anywhere in the world.

The world renowned British sculptor has been creating famous sculptures across the world for over 30 years and if you’ve ever seen his incredible Angel of the North in northern England you can see why he’s so incredibly popular.

The Memes themselves are tiny (well tiny for Gormley, they’re about 38cm tall) cast iron sculptures of the human body. Shown in a variety of postures these 33 iron men make up a work that Gormley had started in 2007 and finished in 2009.

The Memes are being shown at the Anna Schwarz Gallery, 185 Flinders Lane, Melbourne. The exhibition opens March 17 and entry is free. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from midday til 6pm and on Saturday 1pm – 5pm. Go and see it. You won’t be dissapointed.
