Gorillaz announce first Australian tour in over a decade

Gorillaz tour

Digital behemoths Gorillaz are coming to Melbourne and Sydney for headline shows in 2022 to support their new EP.

Long before online concerts and festivals became a thing, Gorillaz ruled the virtual space, seamlessly meshing music, art and technology like no other.

They’ve been already announced as Splendour in the Grass headliners, but now they’ll follow up their Splendour set with headline tour dates in Melbourne and Sydney.

Virtual band Gorillaz are pseudonyms singer 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, guitarist Noodle and drummer Russel Hobbs. Created by Blur’s frontman Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, their acclaimed eponymous debut album was released in 2001.

What you need to know

  • Gorillaz are coming to Melbourne for their first Aussie shows in over a decade
  • They’ll also be playing Splendour in Byron and Sydney in July 2022
  • Tickets go on sale October 5

The BRIT and Grammy Award winning band’s subsequent albums are Demon Days (2005), Plastic Beach (2010), The Fall (2011), Humanz (2017), The Now Now (2018) and Song Machine – Season One: Strange Timez (2020).

Gorillaz have toured the world from San Diego to Syria, Montevideo to Manchester and made an emotional return to the live stage last month with two sold out shows at London’s O2 Arena. The performance on 10 August, to thank and recognise NHS frontline workers, saw the band debut all three new tracks from their new EP ‘Meanwhile’, the band’s homage to the UK’s Notting Hill Carnival.
