Good Things Festival is happening very soon, boasting a lineup that’ll just about knock the wind out of you. But if you aren’t heading along to the festival, all’s not lost for the good folks at Good Things Festival have just dropped a big old announcement of sideshows. Best not skimp on tickets though, there won’t be any more sideshow announcements from here on out.
The Offspring
Famed for their late ’90s anthems ‘Pretty Fly’ and ‘Why Don’t You Get A Job?’, you’d struggle to find anyone who lived through that era of music who doesn’t have every lyric to at least one of The Offspring’s tracks etched in their memory for eternity. Full of catchy, brazen lyrics that are basically the equivalent of a verbal middle finger accompanied by oh so funky beats, The Offspring are the ideal live band. In addition to headlining Good Things Festival, you can catch the rock icons at their own headline gig with support from Horror My Friend at Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide on Wednesday December 5.
All Time Low
All Time Low are the polar opposite what their name might suggest, having spent their career earning five KERRANG! Awards, gracing stages on the likes of Conan, The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel and even being dubbed “Best Pop Punk Band” at the Top In Rock Awards. Across their seven-album strong catalogue, hits like Dear Maria, Weightless, A Love Like War and Count Me In have cemented the band as a force to be reckoned with in the pop-punk scene. Get ready to get sweaty, All Time Low hit the Coolangatta Hotel, Gold Coast on Tuesday December 11.
Dropkick Murphys
Across their two-decade career, American Celtic punk outfit Dropkick Murphys have never been known to do things half-assed. The past 20 years have seen the band share the stage with everyone from Foo Fighters to Bruce Springsteen as well as selling out venues the world over on their own headline tours, and there’s no end in sight. Showcasing the talent that has sold them over six million albums across the globe, you’d better strap yourself in for one hell of a night with Dropkick Murphys. The Boys Are Back and you’d better not wait Until Next Time, Dropkick Murphys hit HQ, Adelaide on Monday December 10.
The Used
Pioneering the alternative rock scene over the past decade and a half with anthemic tracks ‘The Bird And The Worm’, ‘All That I’ve Got’ and ‘The Taste of Ink’, The Used have tunnelled their ways into the hearts of outcasts everywhere. Melding pop sensibilities and hard rock with tear-jerkingly relatable lyrics, The Used became an institution for all things angst and not only do they know how to write a damn good song, but their live performances are next level. Catch The Used at Molo Live @ ANU, Canberra on Tuesday December 11 and sing your little heart out.
La Dispute
Known for their live energy, there is no disputing American post-hardcore outfit La Dispute’s ability to rock. It’s plain to see the band’s technical prowess through tracks like ‘Such Small Hands’ and ‘The Most Beautiful Bitter Fruit’, each highlighting La Dispute’s passion for creating music which is both structurally and artistically complex. They’ll be playing two Good Things Festival sideshows, catch them at Nothcote Social Club, Melbourne on Tuesday December 11 and Factory Theatre, Sydney on Wednesday December 12.
The Wonder Years
Your favourite Pennsylvanian post-punks The Wonder Years will be slinging their tunes about love and home on the stage until you’re so drenched in nostalgia, you could cry. The post-punk outfit responsible for bangers like ‘Local Man Ruins Everything’ and ‘Came Out Swinging’ will be giving Australian fans a special treat, reaching into their delicious back catalogue across two sideshows. The Wonder Years hit Stay Gold, Melbourne on Thursday December 6 and Oxford Art Factory on Monday December 10. They’ll be joined by Boston Manor who will be making their Australian debut.
Waterparks
Houston trio Waterparks are a whirlpool of rock, pop and alternative, a unique style which saw the outfit sliding straight into the limelight with the release of their highly acclaimed debut album Double Dare. Despite being best known for their hit track ‘Stupid For You’, Waterparks are far from a one trick pony and even more fun than the splish-splashy fun-lands after which they are named. Catch Waterparks at The Lair, Sydney on Wednesday December 5 and Howler, Melbourne on Thursday December 6.
SCARLXRD
British rapper SCARLXRD’s eclectic style blends trap music with heavy metal, creating chaotic rhythms that you just can’t get enough of. Sweeping up fans left, right and centre with mixtapes such as Savixur, Annx Dxmini, Sxurce, Xne and the likes, SCARLXRD is like nothing you’ve seen or heard before, in the best possible way. He’ll be making his Australian debut when he hits the country for Good Times Festival, making the most of his visit with headline sideshows in The Brightside, Brisbane on Tuesday December 11 and Howler, Melbourne on Wednesday December 12.
