Getting to know… The Rochester Hotel

What’s the first show you ever had/booked at the venue? A band called Third Earth. They play Xmas themed punk music. Seemed perfect for the middle of April.

Why do you think the music scene in Melbourne is so special? It’s not just because we have so many venues and artists and options etc. I think it’s also because we’re all so supportive of each other.  I like to think we’re all looking out for each other.

If you could book any three bands, who would they be and why? Keeping it local, I’d love to see the likes of anything Tim Rogers had to do with, Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk and Charles Jenkins. That would be a killer night.

What has been the ultimate highlight in terms of a show you’ve held there? The intimacy of the space like the front bar here at The Rochey lends itself to good hootin’ and hollerin’ shows. It’s like having bands play in your lounge room.

Finally, what’s happening there for you as part of this year’s Leaps & Bounds? We’ve got the Riflebirds playing a free show in the front bar. Can’t wait to have their sometimes laid back, mostly foot stomping tunes fill up the place.
