Andrew VanWyngarden spoke to Beat.com.au about the Future Music Festival and disclosed that when MGMT perform their hit song Kids that he and fellow founding member Ben Goldwasser will be singing over the top of a backing track.

"We’re not doing that style of performing that song is not coming out of us trying to discredit the song or brush it off," he explains. "It’s really a homage to the way we were as a band when we started off. Because that¹s really the first song we ever wrote as a band."

VanWyngarden now explains the origin of the song, "Kids we wrote when we were 19… on my twentieth birthday or something. Back then every show we played was this weird electronic karoke show kind of like a satire of mainstream pop music like Britney spears and Pink. And so I think that is how we¹ve always performed that song."

"We’ve only performed it as a live band once or twice in these ridiculous one off settings. So it shouldn’t come as a suprise that we’re still performing it that way. We probably should
extend the song or do more of the performance live but we just haven’t!" He concludes.
