The Northcote Social Club's Social Sanctuary is quickly becoming a weekly favourite.

Ask most people how they feel about Monday, and they’ll probably have the same reaction as Garfield. They’re not exactly beloved.

But hey, life is short, and we’ve got to make every day count. Luckily, the Northcote Social Club is on a mission to make Mondays something to look forward to rather than dread. And they’re doing a pretty damn good job!

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Every Monday, the venue hosts a Social Sanctuary, bringing some of Melbourne’s most exciting indie, post-punk, rock, psychedelic, folk and alternative offerings to the stage.

The tunes are free and they come with cheap eats and drink specials as well. Mountain Goat beers for $10 and chicken or eggplant parmas for $20? If that doesn’t convince you to get out there on a Monday night, then I’m sure the lineup.

Human Noise

  • August 19
  • w/ Stray Dogs To Good Homes and Chloe Booth
  • More info here

Coming straight off a national tour, Human Noise are ready to serve up their signature flavour of indie post-punk and we’re hungry for it! The four-piece are riding high off the release of their sophomore album Glitching Colour, which came out earlier this year. Gritty, groovy and best heard loud, they’ll start your week off right.

They’ll be joined by quirky collective Stray Dogs To Good Homes and pop-rock princess Chloe Booth.

The Great Divides

  • August 26
  • w/  Flora and Lunar Lagoon
  • More info here

Regional Victoria folk-rockers The Great Divides will bring their jangly guitars and relatable lyrics to the NSC. After five years spent honing their craft, they’ve got a relaxed, cozy stage show that’s guaranteed to warm your little heart.

They’ll be supported by Bendigo alt-folk artist Flora and alternative electronic project Lunar Lagoon. With the perfect mix of sweet and sour, this lineup is looking bright!

Joe Ghatt

  • September 2
  • w/ Winksy and Winter McQuinn & The Garden Gnomes
  • More info here

Psychedelic sensation Joe Ghatt is crossing the Tasman Sea just to make your Monday a little better. Isn’t that nice? The New Zealand groover is heading to Australia in support of his latest album, Caper. Known for his intoxicating blend of Afro-beat, tropicalia, bossa nova and jazz, he’s an incredible performer and it’ll be great to see him in such an intimate space.

Kicking off the night will be Geelong favourites Winksy and psych-country-folk artist Winter McQuinn & The Garden Gnomes (who is also the frontman of Sunfruits).

Mature Themes

  • September 9
  • w/ Polly & the Pockets and The Bad Randys
  • More info here

Psychedelic garage rockers Mature Themes are primed to deliver a rambunctious set. They’ll be treating this Monday like a Friday and they’re ready to get freaky! Band member Edan is heading off to clown college in France so the band is using this gig as a goodbye party for the ages.

Also on the bill is Jackson Pollerd’s six-piece psych fiasco Polly & the Pockets and the wild and wonderful Bad Randys.
