Frenzal Rhomb, Bodyjar headline Mountain Goat’s 25th bday bash

Mountain Goat are throwing a 25th birthday party to remember with Frenzal Rhomb and Bodyjar playing The Corner Hotel on Saturday October 8.

Mountain Goat are turning 25 – check out where 25 years of brewing gets you right here – which puts them in the same ballpark as the two legendary bands they’ll host at The Corner Hotel on October 8 – punk rockers Bodyjar and Frenzal Rhomb.

These two iconoclastic thrashers will be complimented by a DJ set from Jane Gazzo, and for the experience on offer, tickets are a steal.

In February this year, Bodyjar released New Rituals – their first album in nearly 10 years. It became their fifth album to reach the ARIA album charts, alongside classics How It Works and Plastic Skies. They’ve accumulated a fiercely loyal fanbase since their formation three decades years ago, and it’s something they’ve never taken for granted. “It’s so rad,” Cam Baines told us. “Stokes me out. We get emails and messages from all over the world. We’re lucky to still have this band.”

They’re also happy to appease the crowd’s requests. “The best [album] to play live is How It Works,” says Baines. “There’s no fast stuff on there so it’s different to the other albums, but still feels fresh. I love just playing songs people want to hear.”

Frenzal Rhomb are responsible for a stack of memorably peculiar album titles, such as A Man’s Not a Camel, Forever Malcolm Young and ARIA-charting Smoko at the Pet Food Factory, just to name a few. Interestingly enough, they also penned their own beer a long, long time ago.

They’ve some pretty insane stories in their time, recounting one of our favourites many years back; “We played a show on the Gold Coast and I was sitting backstage before we went on watching a show on my laptop with my headphones on,” Jay Whalley told us, “and someone kicked the band room door in, ran in and tried to steal the shoes off my feet. I said ‘What are you fucking doing you idiot?’ He goes ‘Ah, my mate had a bet that like, I could take your shoes’.

All in all, these two will make a bloody ripper of a gig that you’d be mad to miss. Grab tickets right here, right now.
