Whole Lotta Helloween 2 at Whole Lotta Love
There’s no shortage of Halloween themed gigs happening around town, but we can guarantee you won’t find another quite like this. Members of Hailgun, A Gazillion Angry Mexicans, Coffin Wolf, Polygamists, Colour Dazed and more are getting together to recreate sets from some of your favourite bands ever. Enter ‘Guns ‘n’ Posers’, Finnspoon”, “Flack Blag”, “A Gazillion Fighting Foos”, “Prime Ministers of the United States of America”, and “The Shitfits”. It’s basically a house party, but at a bar with great tunes, decorations, costumes, and cheap booze – courtesy of Young Henry’s. It’s happening on Saturday October 27. Bands start at 2:30pm with free entry all day with entry from 1pm.
Prolific indie-punk singer-songwriter Kim Salmon and his band The Surrealists will be hitting the stage for the last time this year as part of Darebin Music Feast, and you can bet they’re going to go out swinging. They’ll be joined by US psychedelic garage outfit The In The Out, with the two acts set blast red hot noise into your ears all damn the night. You can catch the cast playing dual sets from 8pm on Saturday October 27 and snag your entry for $15 on the door.
Creature of Fear at The Curtin
Rapidly up-and-coming alt-rock five-piece Creature Fear will launch their infectiously danceable single ‘Please Me’ on Thursday October 25. Though they’ve only recently made their debut with the single ‘Clean Up Man’, the band have already earnt their live stripes, having supported the likes of Ball Park Music, Killing Heidi and Kingswood and cemented themselves as an act to watch in the process. Tempus Sun and Jack The Fox will be on support from 8pm. Grab your tickets for a tenner each on the door.
Local garage punks Glomesh are set to launch their brand spanking new single at the Yarra Hotel on Friday October 26. Featuring current and former members of Remake/Remodel, Screamfeeder, The Sunset Club, Psychic 5, and Attacked By Seagulls, this lot are no strangers to the stage and sure know their way around a tune. With the likes of Way Shit, Dark Fair and Plaster of Paris on support, this is shaping up to be one heck of a night. Head down from 8pm, it’ll cost you $10 to get in the door.
Painted Hearts and Burning Bridges at The Drunken Poet
Settle in at The Drunken Poet on Sunday October 28 for a chilled out, late afternoon of tunes with local bands The Painted Hearts and The Burning Bridges. Painted Hearts will ease you in with quasi-blues, jazz and roots before Burning Bridges swoop in with a bit of old-style country that’ll really help you throw back those beers. Painted Hearts will warm up the stage from 4pm before The Burning Bridges take over from 6.30pm and, as always at The Poet, entry is free. Booyah.
