Baxter's announces relocation to new space while maintaining commitment to live music community.

The beloved Fitzroy live music venue has become a cornerstone of Melbourne’s grassroots music scene since opening, supporting local artists and providing a home for emerging talent. Known for its cosy, laid-back atmosphere and diverse programming spanning acoustic acts to jazz ensembles, Baxter’s has cultivated a reputation as the go-to destination for intimate live music experiences.

Baxter’s will close its current location and reopen at a fresh space that owner Brendan Frankcombe describes as better supporting the live music experience the venue champions. The relocation represents an opportunity to evolve and expand while maintaining the venue’s commitment to independent artists, inclusive programming and genuine community connection.

The new venue promises to launch with an opening party and full live music calendar, maintaining Baxter’s signature programming ethos of eclectic, inclusive and proudly local entertainment. The venue’s rustic decor, warm lighting and comfortable seating have created the perfect environment for experiencing live music up close, elements expected to transfer to the new space.

Since establishing itself in Fitzroy, Baxter’s has distinguished itself through its commitment to local emerging artists and welcoming atmosphere that makes performers and audiences feel equally at home. The venue regularly features local emerging artists on the main stage Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30pm, with DJs upstairs Friday and Saturday from 10pm.

The relocation maintains Baxter’s position within Fitzroy, after playing a key role in establishing the suburb’s modern reputation for an eclectic mix of culture, art and music. The area serves as a hub for live music venues catering to diverse tastes, from indie rock to jazz and electronic music, with many venues operating for decades as staples of Melbourne’s music scene.

Baxter’s role in supporting emerging artists and fostering community among music lovers has made it an essential part of Fitzroy’s dynamic live music landscape.

The transition from the current Brunswick Street location to the new address represents continuity rather than disruption, with the venue maintaining its core mission of supporting local artists and creating memorable live music experiences. The move allows Baxter’s to continue serving the creative community while potentially expanding its capacity and capabilities.
