Fed Square is hosting an epic competition to help kickstart your music career

The winner of Fed Square’s competition for Victorian musicians will walk away with a prize valued at $100,000.

Fed Square has joined forces with MTV, Melbourne Music Week, DITTO Music and Mushroom Group to bring an epic opportunity to Victorian bands and solo artists. Titled Fed Live, the competition will award a winning act with a grand prize valued at $100,000.

To go in the running, you’ll need to submit a music video showing off your talents. The competition is open to any and all genres and looks to support local musicians, particularly emerging acts, after what has been an incredibly tough year for the music industry.

Entries opened last week for regional Victorian acts, with Melburnians now encouraged to apply thanks to the easing of restrictions allowing band members and artists to get together and shoot their video submissions.

Entries close on November 15, at which point an industry panel will shortlist ten music videos. The top ten videos will then be posted on the Fed Square website for a public vote between November 20-27 before the winner is announced on November 30.

The grand prize package includes:

  • A 30-minute concert at Fed Square’s Deakin Edge theatre as part of Melbourne Music Week and presented by Fed Square, to be live streamed on the Fed Square website and the Digital Façade (the famous Big Screen overlooking Fed Square) on Saturday December 19 at 8pm.
  • Three exclusive 30-minute mentoring sessions with an A&R representative from Reclusive Records/Mushroom Group.
  • A tailored publicity and radio campaign with Ditto Music, as well as a potential distribution deal which includes pitching to Spotify, Apple Music and other DSP curated playlists.
  • An artist feature editorial on MTV.
  • MTV playlist addition on one of three music channels, MTV Hits, Club MTV or MTV Classic (winning artists genre dependent) on Foxtel and Fetch.
  • A featured hero frontpage on the Fed Square website.
  • The winning music video featured and played on the Fed Square Digital Façade daily throughout next December and January.
  • An interview on Anything But Square, the Fed Square podcast.
  • $5,000 cash.

Plus, everyone who votes for their favourite video in the public voting round will go in the running for a $1,000 cash prize, with the winner to be selected at random.

“Live music is a cornerstone of Melbourne’s culture, and one of the great artistic pillars of the city. Fed Square is proud to launch FED LIVE – our latest endeavour to celebrate and support this vital industry,” said Fed Square CEO Xavier Csar.

“With the arts industry currently facing significant challenges, it is more important now than it’s ever been to support Victorian musicians, especially up-and-comers, and as the gateway for Melbourne’s arts and cultural district, Fed Square is proud to shine a spotlight on the city’s incredible diversity of talent,” he said.

“Programs like this will help keep our music industry alive during these unprecedented times. The City of Melbourne is committed to helping our live music venues and local artists through our Melbourne Music Week program as we look to the future and hope to welcome people back to the city safely in the coming months,” added Chair of the Arts, Culture and Heritage Portfolio, Councillor Rohan Leppert.

Entries are open until November 15. For more information, head to the Fed Square website. Competition dates may change to reflect the COVID-19 restrictions.
