This year’s categories include the Melbourne Prize for Music – for a Victorian musician, or group of musicians, – whose work has made an outstanding contribution to Australian music and has enriched cultural and public life and the Outstanding Musicians Award for a Victorian musician or group for a recent work representing outstanding creativity and skill.

There is also the Beleura Award For Composition, and the Development Award aimed at developing the professional career of an up and coming artist or group. The Civic Choice Award will return once again, opening voting up to the public.

A new category has also been introduced in 2016. The Distinguished Musicians Fellowship will provide commercial engagement with the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

This year’s judging panel features six music sector professionals including Patrick Donovan, CEO Music Victoria and Chair Australian Music Industry Network, Marshall McGuire, Head of Artistic Planning for Melbourne Recital Centre, and Helen Marcou, co-founder of Bakehouse Studios and SLAM.
