Have you got what it takes to become a part of Victorian music history?

Attention: all Victorian bands, solo artists, producers, DJs, venue managers… pretty much anyone in the local music scene. Now is your chance to take home the recognition you deserve.

Entries have just opened up for the 2023 Music Victoria Awards, a massive annual competition that shines a light on the best sonic offerings in the state. With over $100K in prizes up for grabs (as well as eternal clout), it’s an amazing opportunity and it’s only available for the next few weeks.

Music Victoria Awards 2023

  • Entries for all awards are open and are set to close at 2pm on Friday July 21
  • Nominees will be chosen by a panel of judges before public voting begins
  • All awards are free to enter, so don’t be shy!

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

This is also the first year that entrants don’t need to be Music Victoria members, meaning anyone in the industry can toss their hat in the ring (as long as they meet the eligibility requirements).

Entries are judged by a panel of at least five industry professionals. The nominees are announced on September 14 and then it’s up to the public to decide who takes the top spot. Past winners have included Australian music icons such as Sampa the Great, Baker Boy, Paul Kelly and Mo’Ju.

There are 29 awards up for grabs in a ton of different categories, such as Best of the Best (which celebrates the best overall act, album, track and more), genre-specific categories, community awards and awards for venues, festivals and presenters.

Each year, the Music Victoria Awards also inducts outstanding individuals and organisations who have significantly contributed to the local scene into their Hall Of Fame.

Last year, they added the legendary singer-songwriter Deborah Conway AM, SLAM and Bakehouse Studios co-founder Helen Marcou AM and her partner Ian “Quincy” McLean AM.

This year’s winners will be announced at a huge awards ceremony and party taking place on October 31. Entries are only open until 2pm on Friday July 21, so don’t miss your chance to show Victoria what you’ve got.
