Enter a fantasy world at the Immigration Museum’s Summer Courtyard: Metamorphosis

'Bigoa with Fan', 2020 by Atong Atem
Words by Arielle Richards

Live music, art, food and nostalgic meditations on identity, what more could you need?

This special event at the Immigration Museum showcases intersections between art forms, with the debut of two new exhibitions: Atong Atem’s To Be Real, a large-scale set of photographic works which meditate on “mythology and fantasy, belonging and truth”, and Becoming You: An Incomplete Guide, presenting 71 Australian coming-of-age stories as told by 72 Australian storytellers.

The two features come together to explore the many complexities of identity and growing up, through both digital and physical mediums.

After-hours on Friday February 26, the courtyard will come alive – read: metamorphose – with performances by Melbourne-based interdisciplinary artists.

Dancer and performance artist Adolfo Aranjuez will perform, in addition to live sets from incredible hip hop artists Pookie and Birdz, and a performance by DJ Stev Zar, who heads UMAMI, a collective of queer and POC artists.

Live music, art, food and nostalgic meditations on identity, what more could you need? Even more artists are set to be announced soon, ensuring this will be an event not to be missed.

Summer Courtyard: Metamorphosis is happening from 6pm on Friday February 26. Secure your tickets here.
