The Omega Ensemble will present Elevator Music in Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle from 16-21 August.
The contemporary classical music programme promises to be revealing, raucous and beautifully irreverent according to the ensemble. Elevator Music will feature works by Anna Clyne, Aaron Copland and Graeme Koehne, including the world premiere of Koehne’s Double Clarinet Concerto.
The 90-minute programme will be performed without an interval and showcases the ensemble’s commitment to presenting both established and contemporary classical repertoire. The programme opens with Anna Clyne’s Stride, a dynamic work from the British-American composer known for her vivid orchestrations and compelling musical narratives. This will be followed by Aaron Copland’s beloved Concerto for Clarinet, Strings, Harp and Piano, a cornerstone of American classical music that showcases the clarinet’s versatility and lyrical qualities.
The evening’s highlight will be the world premiere of Graeme Koehne’s Double Clarinet Concerto. Koehne, one of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary composers, is known for his accessible yet sophisticated compositional style that often incorporates elements of popular music and jazz into classical frameworks.
