Tourist, whose real name is William Phillips, has gained recognition for his evolving sound over the past decade. His latest album Memory Morning was released in May 2024, showcasing a more mood-based, instinctive style of electronic composition. Inspired by a range of genres, from shoegaze to psychedelic music, Phillips describes his latest work as focusing on “scene-setting and the intensity of the private listening experience.” The new album marks a departure from his earlier, more dancefloor-driven tracks and embraces a reflective approach, inviting listeners to explore its layers over time.
Reflecting on his journey through electronic music, Phillips shared, “Each album in my career is the chapter of a book; some are more interesting than others, but you only know how interesting they are when you finish them.” Over the years, his music has drawn influence from the sounds of house and synth-pop, leading to collaborations with artists like Christine and the Queens, Deftones, Swedish House Mafia, and The Weeknd.
In addition to his headline shows, Tourist has toured extensively across the UK and Europe, both as a headliner and as a support act for Bonobo. His Australian tour will see him supported by Melbourne-based artist Tentendo, adding a local flavour to the night.
Tourist’s Melbourne performance will be a standing event at Northcote Theatre, with doors opening at 7:30 pm. Grab tickets here.
