This Friday November 10, Club Derange are celebrating their second birthday at Hugs&Kisses. The purveyors of all sounds weird and wonderful have carved a nice little niche in the Melbourne community, never bound by sticking to one genre and supporting local talent as hard as underground internationals. For the occasion, they’ve sorted a no bullshit lineup of favourites: Harold, Millú, Paul From Finance and Simon TK. Two years of throwing parties is nothing to sniff at, but get a load of Melbourne Techno Collective. On Saturday they’re celebrating 15 years. That’s a bloody lot of techno. Over the years, they’ve brought you weekly, fortnightly and monthly tekkers at just about every venue possible in Melbourne. To celebrate, they’ve decided to go back to their roots and focus on Melbourne talent, both fresh and seasoned – perfectly encapsulated by the headline slot taken by two of the best in live techno: veteran Honeysmack b2b with newcomer (comparatively) ACM. Also playing live is Voiteck launching his new Independiente EP and Enclave. The rest of the bill is filled with selectors who’ve been regular guests with MTC over the years; Craig McWhinney, Sam McEwin, Jay Reading, Peter Baker, Matt Radovich, Simon Slieker, Chiara Kickdrum, D-REX, Spez and Sundelin. It goes down at 24 Moons in Northcote from 9pm.
You might notice a few names missing from that lineup that you might expect on a who’s who of local techno, and that’s because we have an unfortunate clash on our hands. The Bunker crew are taking over the new digs Xe54 on Southbank on Saturday, with Adrian Bell, Jake McDonald, Kiti, Citipower and ACM (busy night mate?). Touch choice you’ve got there Melbourne techno fans.
If techno isn’t your thing, you still got options. Moonrise Dance Club at The Toff In Town have reliable party starters Roza Terenzi, Ricci and Common Nocturne manning the decks. Kicks off at 11.30pm.
Over at Lounge, Lucid sees eclectic disco and house crews 6am At The Garage and Daydreams team up for a six-hour back to back set. Should be pretty bloody loose. Darcy Justice and friends will be backing them up on the balcony. Get amongst it.
