You know those times when you’re being forced to think about next weekend when you’ve just had a big weekend and you’re not really sure if you’ll ever actually go out again because you’re a broken shell of a human? That’s definitelynot me right now.
On Friday July 21, Tornado Wallace and Otologic are back in the same room for an all night jaunt called Famiglia Feeling at Banana : Peach. The friends haven’t been in the same place at the same time on too many occasions since the notorious C’Grade at Mercat Basement finished up, but those nights are still the stuff of very fond memories for a lot of Melbourne club rats so get in early if you’re keen for this one.
Up the road at Platform One on Friday, Bunker returns with the relentless and kind of terrifying live techno of SNTS. Having emerged around 2012, SNTS still maintains his anonymity with a hooded cloak and black mask, the aesthetic bringing a bit of a nightmarish sith lord vibe. Local support comes from Vohkinne, Chiara Kickdrum, Adrian Bell and Edward Richards.
If that’s not enough for a Friday night, Hold Tight is back for its third and biggest instalment, presented by Good Manners. Headliner for this one is Ninja Tune’s Romare, who’ll be coming straight from his supporting gig for label mate Bonobo – both being in the country for Splendour in the Grass. Romare’s no stranger to our shores, and with a cruisey but kooky-house sound that’s oh-so-Melbourne, why would he be? Local support comes from Planète (DJ set), Shedbug & Rudolf C, Cool Anna vs Kasun and Funkhouser. It’s going down at Francis28 from 9pm.
On Saturday night the legendary Pleasure Planet crew is back at Lounge for one night/day only. Pleasure Planet: One Last Trip brings the kaleidoscopic techno and performance art that gained them worldwide recognition of being a fucking great party back to the CBD with PWD, TUC, Pjenné, Beenak and Harold’s Dreamweaver on audio duties, G- Spot, Misklectic Trio and Maddie Armstrong handling performance and Rubbed Genie, Isaac Christie and Alexander Etah on visual art duties.
Up northside, Saturday also sees Machine return to My Aeon with a couple of American big guns throwing down: Truncate and Drumcell. Los Angeles is traditionally more the home of hip hop and house music, but these two legends have made L.A proud, both on home turf and abroad on the European club-circuit. This is the third time Truncate has been a guest of Machine, and now with My Aeon’s improved sound system, prepare for a full rinse. Local support comes from Lateral, Emmymaie and residents Simon Slieker and Andrew Till.
