It’s Easter and you know what that means: a whole bunch of serious sacrilegious party times. The much loved festival Inner Varnika kicks off on Good Friday and goes through ‘til Easter Sunday. It’s sold out, but if you’re lucky enough to have tickets you’re in for a treat with acts like D.Tiffany doing a live set, the legendary In Aeternam Vale, Jayda G, Peter Van Hoesen, Dj Sprinkles, James Pants, Sex Tags and an army of local talent.

 

But if you can’t get out there, don’t fret, there’s plenty to do in ol’ Melbourne town. Cutting Shapes are taking over the Gasometer on Good Friday Eve with Post Percy leading the charge. The one man veteran party machine will be backed up by Jesse Young and more to be announced.

 

Also on Thursday, Belgium producer/DJ Kolombo is bringing his huge disco set to Smalltown at Brown Alley. Olivier Grégoire has enjoyed lots of love for his Kolombo alias, with releases on labels such as Kompakt, Noir Music, Turbo, Eskimo, Future Classic, Systematic and Boxer. He consequently tours worldwide all year-round, djing his solid mix of house and disco. Dance music at its finest. Local support will come from Tom Evans, Edgework, Dan Bentley, Stefan Mac, Sean Grimes, Van Oasis, Sarah Morgan, Tanner Kram and Tim Light .

 

On Good Friday, Workshop is getting around the gnarlier side of dance music to get you bouncing like the Easter bunny with their You Are Forgiven party. DJs Mystik, Infinite Wax, Operator Andy, Tom Mac, Intech and Decksi with be exploring all things dancehall, steppers, hip hop, dub, techno, drum’n’bass and jungle. Kicks off at 8pm and it’s free.

 

On Saturday, The Sub Club hosts Deep Roots, exploring the core elements of underground electronic music with the focus being on pure, unadulterated deep sounds. Aves Volare, Henry Fosters, EROS99 and VictorL will be your captains for you journey, it’s free entry from 11pm.

 

On Sunday, the Operatives present Espionage – Australian Easter Special going down at Howler over the whole venue. In the bandroom is Ginger And The Ghost, Beatrice, Blasko, ABLE8 and Dudley Watts, in the courtyard is Cara Mia, Coco Brown, Danielsan, Emelyne, Lady Banton, Lotus Moonchild, MzRizk, Sadiva and Walla C. Beatrice will be a highlight for sure, she’s been killing it lately in various music projects and was recently selected to be part of the Red Bull Music Academy. Not only will she be doing her electrifying take on deep hip hop, subterranean bass and break-beat, she’s teamed up with the incredible motion artist Brendan Harwood to provide visuals for the night. Expect some mind expanding shit. Kicks off at 4pm.
