If you haven’t recovered from Labour Day weekend festivals yet then you got problems, it’s time to get back on that horse my friends. This Friday, New Guernica is hosting a new regular night called Compound, devoted to all things techno and left-of-centre dance music. On the inaugural lineup is a hefty brew of local talent including Three Mile, Chiara Kickdrum, Feema and Yanni Sarantis. Whether you find joy in sipping a cocktail and doing a lil’ chin-stroking or spinning in circles with your eyes closed on the dancefloor, there’s something here for you. It’s free entry before 11pm too.
If sweaty house music is more your thing, Friday also sees London based DJ Boring hitting the Gaso with locals Human Movement, Shouse, Heavy Fergus Sweetland and Peruw. DJ Boring had one of 2016’s nicest deep house cuts with his Winona EP, carefully threading classic melancholy chords with tasteful 303 acid synth lines and dusty lo-fi drums loops – always remaining cool, calm and collected. His George Michael tribute Goodbye Michael is also gorgeous and well worth a spin. Local producer/DJs Human Movement have also been killing it lately having just released their Right Thang EP on respected French label Kitsuné last month.
On Saturday, Bunker have their final open-air party of the season featuring Swedish techno producer/DJ Nihad Tule. This one’s happening at the rooftop of Geddes Lane in the city, a criminally under-utilized venue in recent times as far as I’m concerned. It’s a great space and the boys have organised Funktion One sound for the occasion. Behind the decks, Nihad Tule’s unique ability to build suspense has led him to become a returning figure at some of the world’s best techno clubs. Local support comes from Echo Inspectors throwing down a live-set, big dawg PWD and Malou. It kicks off at 2pm.
If you’re still vibing a party after that, kick on at Lucid, featuring Germany’s freshest talent Leif Müller and locals Harold (who I imagine will still be coming back down to Earth after his brilliant Golden Plains closing set the other week), Paul Jager, Tim Heaney and Jack Gallagher. Lounge is where it’s at, going right through til dawn.
