Inside the Temple of Boom: Why NGV’s new recreation of the Parthenon is ‘an endless rabbit hole of interest’

It’s all going to happen inside the 2022 NGV Architecture Commission. Temple of Boom is an evocative reimagining of the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens. Adorned with the work of local Melbourne artists intended to evolve over time and reflect the vibrant colours and artistic embellishments that defined the original building.

Throughout summer, the Temple of Boom will become a meeting ground for creatives with live music and art bringing people together to enjoy the local talent of artists and musicians.

It’s just one of a series of NGV announcements today, with a few different free events throughout the summer. Extended opening hours throughout January provide visitors with more opportunities to view the Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse exhibition this summer. The ground floor of NGV International, including Alexander McQueen and the 2022 NGV Architecture Commission: Temple of Boom, will be open from 10am till 6pm, Sunday – Thursday between 26 Dec – 29 Jan.
