They’ve called themselves “the internet’s first boy band”, and churned out 11 viral music videos and three self-released hip hop albums in the past three years, all from their bedrooms as a part of their plan to be DIY, self-made pop stars.
That might all be changing though, because Brockhampton’s most outspoken band member Kevin Abstract has tweeted that the group have signed with RCA, in a deal that is reportedly worth $15 million and agrees to six albums over three years – excluding touring and merchandise.
The band met on a Kanye West fan forum in 2015 and has grown to an incredible 14 members, with their first release under the RCA umbrella to be an LP, PUPPY, set to drop mid-2018.
Abstract reassured fans in his tweet that the $15 million deal “changes nothing”, and that all Brockhampton videos and music will still be created from the boys’ house.
We’ll just have to wait and see if PUPPY will continue the genre-bending artists on their path to self-made boy band stardom.
