Tasmania's freakiest winter party is back with a vengeance.
After taking a break in 2024 and offering only a slim selection of events, Dark Mofo has announced it’ll be returning for its 11th festival as big and bold as ever.
Bringing back beloved activities including the Winter Feast, the Ogoh-Ogoh, Night Mass and the Nude Solstice Swim, the festival will run from June 5 to 15.

To celebrate the announcement that they’re back and ready to party, they’re opening pre-sales to Night Mass, the Hobart takeover, on November 5 at 10. For the upcoming event, they’ve enlisted the help of new artistic director Chris Twite.
“Dark Mofo is back. For our 11th chapter once more we’ll bathe the city in red and deliver two weeks of inspiring art, music and ritual. Today we’re giving Dark Mofo devotees a chance to access a limited pre-release of tickets to the sprawling behemoth, Night Mass,” he says.
“Night Mass is a beast, and this year it will evolve once more — worming its way through the city with new spaces, performances and experiences to dance, explore or crawl your way through.”
The music and arts program, which in 2023 featured the likes of Ethel Cain, Sleaford Mods, Thundercat, Molchat Doma and Trentemøller, is set to drop next year.
Hosted by Hobart’s quirky Museum of Old and New, Dark Mofo has gained a cult following over the years, with events often selling out quickly. This year, despite an extremely successful 2023, the festival took time to regroup, citing “the weight of shifting conditions and the burden of escalating costs” as part of the reason for putting the 2024 event on hold.
