Dapplegrim

So then, what’s the band name and what you ‘do’ in the band?

“We’re called Dapplegrim, and I’m the guitarist, support vocalist and song writer in the band.”

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

“I guess we sound most like a mix of folk music and your typical Australian indie rock band. Plus we have a lot of shanty and story telling influences, and nautical themes.”

What do you love about making music?

“I particularly love song writing because it’s a fantastic way to be creative on two levels, both with music and lyrics. I think both aspects are vital to a good song and you can’t really rely on one or the other. I also love performing with other people and the satisfaction you get from a good set.”

What do you hate about the music industry?

“Don’t hate much about it… I kind of accept that it’s hard to get into and that you’re going to have a rough time along the way. But I’ve heard that live music and gig venues are dying out and I think that’s both stupid and disappointing.”

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

“I’d be too freaked out to show my heroes our music, but I’d love to meet Led Zeppelin. But I’d really love to meet The Decemberists and show them our music because they’re one of my biggest inspirations and I think we’re working in the same direction.”

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

“I can’t remember the names of anyone whose music I think is awful so I don’t know if I can answer that.”

What can a punter expect from your live show?

“Powerful lead vocals from Ellie Nalder, beautiful harmonies and sweet songs, interesting story telling songs, and catchy melodies and beats from the band.”

What you got to sell CD-wise?

“We’ll have a compilation live CD from our gigs at the Esplanade Hotel, and free downloads on our facebook page and Triple J Unearthed page. Check them out!”

When’s the gig and with who?

“I’ll be performing at Melting Pot’s Songwriters in the Round (at Vibe on Smith St) on July 8th, showcasing some acoustic versions of Dapplegrim songs and some completely new material. We’ll have a few band gigs lined up in the next few months too including at Revolver on July 20.”

Anything else to add?

“Yep, come see me at Songwriters in the Round! It’s a fantastic night. I’ll be performing with Jacqueline Dwyer and Stu Hazelman.”
