L2R Dance presents their latest work: Insert Self.

Set to run for two exclusive performances at Chunky Move’s Southbank studios on December 1, the lively piece uses street and contemporary dance to celebrate uniqueness in all of its forms.

At the heart of Insert Self are seven exceptional dancers — Nastaran ‘Nasta’ Ghalhghovand, Maya Hajizadeh, Stephanie Dixon, L’wel Gay ‘Ligi’ Moo, Phil Pham, Rito Huynh, and Kihmo Quintela.

These artists, a blend of emerging talents and seasoned professionals, will perform the choreography of Jayden Wall and David Prakash.

“The seven dancers are co-collaborators in the choreography. They have helped shape the work, providing the creative basis for the themes in the work, which Jayden and I used to frame and direct the performance,” says Prakash.

Phil Pham, one of the featured dancers, articulates the profound impact of dance on identity: “Dancing makes me feel free. It inspires me to continue growing in dance so that I can continue telling and elevating my stories; but also, to explore myself and my own heritage.”

L2R, a not-for-profit Melbourne dance organization located in the west, is dedicated to providing free programs, arts leadership opportunities and employment pathways for children and young people traditionally underrepresented in mainstream arts and culture. By fostering belonging, well-being, and cultural leadership, L2R transforms young lives through the power of dance.

“Insert Self is not just a performance – it’s a movement and a call to arms for embracing your individuality and charting your own course, all while celebrating the beautiful chaos of creativity. Hopefully, the work sparks discussions that have the potential to enable profound positive change,” says Jacinda Richards, L2R’s Artistic Director.
