Dan Sultan set to play Brunswick gigs next month

Six-time ARIA winner Dan Sultan will play two special gigs at the Brunswick Ballroom on August 12 and 13.

He’ll be playing his beloved repertoire after support act The Terrifying Lows, the moniker of Melbourne-based musician and producer, and Gamilaroi man Tyler Millott, who’s touring credits include the likes of Ali Barter, Husky and Gretta Ray.

Sultan is a multifaceted, multi-award winning musician, writer, performer and artist. Along with many records spanning an abundance of different genres and styles, he’s also an accomplished author, as well as an occasional actor thanks to his musical cameo in Bran Nue Dae.

Receiving a total of six ARIA Awards to date – including Best Artist – he also boasts an array of other career accolades over a timespan of more than a decade, which showcase his diverse and ever evolving career.

We’ve previously thoroughly enjoyed Sultan live, reviewing one of his most recent Melbourne appearances late last year, noting “he drew the audience in like a hipster to a record store.

Getting his break through seed funding from John Butler before making huge industry waves with back-to-back critical smashes in 2009 and 2010, Sultan says he “enjoys not being reduced to a genre”.

His talent for playing rock, blues, country, neo-soul, power-pop and even children’s songs, is something to behold and audiences appeared more than happy to embrace his evolving repertoire.

The last time he played Melbourne, the then-37-year-old spoke of many positive changes in his life over recent years, including getting married, being a father to his daughter, and having a son on the way. He also shared he will be celebrating three years of sobriety.

Expect a similarly intimate, revealing and gripping performance this time around in an equally endearing venue.

Buy tickets here for Friday, and here for Saturday.
