Hideously talented musician and filmmaker Cosmo Jarvis gained a bit of attention last year with a viral Youtube video called Gay Pirates, featuring a really sweet song about gay pirates. His latest single starts out in a similar vein of almost-twee romantic acoustic indie, but arcs up beautifully in a folk-punk chorus. His lyrics are deft and quick-witted: “You’re sure as hell not Jesus, but you’re saving me / Thank you oh so much for putting faith in me.” Meanwhile, his video is a blackly comic riff on religious devotion that seems to be about a paedophilic priest, which is interesting.
