Confirmed: Foo Fighters to perform one-off show in Geelong this March

The US rockers will take to GMHBA Stadium in Geelong on Friday, March 4 2022.

Following the social media frenzy on Wednesday with rumours that Foo Fighters were in talks to play a special one-off concert in Geelong next month to promote Victoria as a live music destination, the news has officially been confirmed.

The bloody Foo Fighters are performing at GMHBA Stadium (Kardinia Park) in Geelong on Friday, March 4 2022, bringing their brand of no-nonsense rock and roll to the region for one-night-only. They’ll be joined by Amyl and the Sniffers and The Meanies.

Excitingly, this will be the first time a full-capacity stadium show by any international music artist has taken place in Australia since the COVID pandemic first hit back in March 2020.

If it’s anything like their live shows we’ve seen before, you can trust the Foo Fighters won’t hold back in bringing their mammoth set to the stage, reminding us all that it’s the band’s live performance that is the key to their rampant popularity, which spans across several generations of music fans.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

The show is presented by Frontier Touring and a the first from Always Live, a new Visit Victoria program that aims to fund and celebrate contemporary live music. The biggest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Always Live is set to make global noise, turning up the volume on our unparalleled home-grown talent, the best acts from around the country and the most sought-after artists from across the globe. Getting the Foo Fighters in Geelong is sure a promising start from the initiative.

With more shows to come, the program will feature shows of all scales and styles, created and curated for our special stages, places and beloved venues across Melbourne and throughout the regions.

The show from Always Live is just the start to one of Geelong’s busiest weekends, with Midnight Oil playing at Mount Duneed Estate for A Day on the Green on Saturday, March 5 and Nitro Circus taking to Kardinia Park on March 7, after having been moved from March 4 to accommodate the Foo Fighters gig.

Known for hits including ‘Everlong’, ‘Monkey Wrench’, ‘The Pretender’, ‘Learn to Fly’ and ‘Best of You’, the Foo Fighter’s energetic stage antics, accompanied by their obvious desire to please every single one of their fans in attendance, is what sets them apart from other rock bands. You can bet that the 12-time Grammy-winning behemoth will be bringing a career-spanning set with them, blasting through hit after hit from a discography that’s afforded them well over 25 million album sales.

Whether you’re a Foo Fighters fan or not, there is undeniable longevity to their music – everyone has a Foo Fighters song that takes them back to a time and place. This is not to be missed.
