Who are we chatting to? Hi, I’m ColDrip. I’m a Melbourne-based, solo instrumental, hip hop producer.

What do you love about making music? Since I mainly sample and chop records when it comes to making a beat, I really enjoy creating a different sound from what the sample used to be. I mainly make a beat that I’d enjoy listening to but also really enjoy and appreciate when I see others dig my beats.

What inspires your music most? Having such a strong loving community in the Melbourne beat scene, that inspires me to make more beats every time we are playing gigs. The community is very welcoming and from someone who started off knowing nobody in 2016, I’ve quickly become very well acquainted with everyone.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be? Japanese instrumental producer Nujabes who passed away in 2010. I started off listening to his music when I was a teenager and quickly became very inspired by the way he creates his music, having the ability to create an atmosphere with every song he made.

What can a punter expect from your live show? I use a piece of hardware called the Sp-404sx that is used a lot by instrumental producers – it’s a sequencer to play my beats from. With my shows I tend to never keep a solid set, I always adapt to what the night is and play tunes that fit the feel of what is going on around me.
