There are a select few simple ideas present on Promises, but Cloud Control manage to get a decent amount of mileage out of each, pushing themselves just out from their comfort zone while roughing up the edges of their pop smarts. A helping of grit is sprinkled over the adept chorus, before easing into some tricky vocal interplay. The guitar solo is just the ticket, too.
