The Committee will review the current three year old Music Strategy and come up with ideas on how to help Melbourne’s music industry over the next five years. These include identifying partnerships with the state Government and business organizations, how to work closer with music associations, promote Melbourne as a music city, and provide high level advice on the City of Melbourne’s relationship with musicians, live music venues and music public programming.

The 12 are:

* Andrea Baker of Monash University and live music advocate.

* Adrian Basso, Radio 106.7FM

* Ali Bird, Film Victoria

* Patrick Donovan, Music Victoria

* Meera Fernandes, The Music Generation

* Mairead Hannan, composer/producer

* Ian James, Mushroom Music Publishing

* Darah Kan, The Mercat Cross Hotel

* Peter Luscombe, musician/producer/writer

* Dobe Newton OAM, teacher/consultant/performer

* Jerry Poon, The Operatives HQ Pty Ltd

* Lucie Ribush, The Toff in Town/Cookie/Boney clubs

The Committee will be chaired by Councillor Rohan Leppert who is also Chair of Arts at City of Melbourne.

Cr Leppert said, “From the live music venues, to the artists, musicians, producers and punters; Melbourne’s reputation as a city of music is well established. The City of Melbourne recognises the importance of music in the cultural fabric of the city, and we want to work with the industry to ensure the sector is supported, sustained and continues to grow.

“If we’re going to continue to foster an environment and opportunities for the city’s music industry and creative soul to thrive and grow, we need to work with the key players. This Committee will provide strategic advice on the future of music in our city.”
