Artistic Director Gideon Obarzanek reveals his personal side in new Chunky Move production.

Chunky Move’s latest collaboration with Malthouse Theatre is set to reveal the more personal side of their own artistic director and choreographer Gideon Obarzanek.

As an acclaimed Australian choreographer Obarzanek has received numerous accolades; spanning from his 1997 Australian Dance Award to the more recent Helpmann Award for his work on Chunky Move’s electronic dance performance Glow.

However, in his new performance Faker, Gideon Obarzanek takes on a dual role of both choreographer and dancer, recalling an email of brutal feedback from a past student that affected him despite his wide-spread respect and growing renown.

Despite Chunky Move’s reputation for technological spectaculars, Faker is set to be a more simplistic piece, focused on honesty more than flashiness. Faker will premiere at the CUB Malthouse’s Beckett Theatre as part of Dance Massive from March 22 to the April 2.
