This explosive adaptation of the cult cheerleading film lands at the National Theatre in St Kilda for six nights only, blending high-octane choreography, sharp wit and heartfelt stories of rivalry, identity and finding your people.
With a powerhouse creative team including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt behind the score, the show follows champion cheer captain Campbell as she’s redistricted to rival Jackson High and forced to team up with their dance crew for Nationals glory. Emily McDougall leads as Campbell, fresh from her standout turn as Elle Woods in Theatrical Inc’s Legally Blonde. Rising star Alyssa Jandayan plays Danielle, the fierce Jackson High dance crew leader. The 30-strong cast mixes triple-threat musical theatre performers with real Melbourne competitive cheer athletes, bringing authentic athletic fire to the stage.
Producer Andrew Gyopar says the production celebrates local talent and cross-community collaboration. “It’s exciting to showcase these extraordinary cheer athletes stepping onto the musical theatre stage for the first time,” he notes. The supporting cast features strong turns from Zade Nabole, Sho Tochigi, Jenna Mole and Ari Rego as the hilarious La Cienega.
Boasting Tony Award-nominated credentials and a killer mix of pop, hip-hop and show-tune energy, Bring It On delivers unapologetic fun while tackling female competition, prejudice and belonging. This limited run is set to be one of the most energetic nights out in Melbourne this July.
