Guy Blackman and Ben O’Connor are co-managers of Chapter Music, one of Australia’s longest running and best respected independent record labels. Founded in 1992, Chapter has a catalogue of nearly 200 releases from artists such as Laura Jean, Gregor, Sweet Whirl, NO ZU, The Goon Sax, Twerps, Dick Diver, Beaches and many more. Tone Deaf have called Chapter ‘almost unequivocally the most treasured record label in Australia’, while Rolling Stone called Chapter ‘one of Australia’s most enduring and popular independent labels’.
Pitchfork ran a feature on Chapter in 2018 entitled Where to Start With Chapter Music, the Australian Label Behind 25 Years of Great Indie Pop, saying the ‘label boasts a rich discography that is often gentle but rarely weak’. Chapter won Best Independent Label at the 2019 AIR Awards. Chapter Music is a champion of Australian music with a strong Melbourne focus, although they have also released artists from the US, Sweden, Japan and elsewhere.
