Ceres’ Tom Lanyon goes solo for intimate Live & Alone show

Words by staff writer

Band hiatuses don't always mean the end of the story, as Tom Lanyon proves beautifully.

Ceres frontman Tom Lanyon is taking the stage solo for the first time with Ceres: Live & Alone at Brunswick Ballroom on 18 October. This marks a rare opportunity to hear songs and stories from the Melbourne indie rock band’s catalogue in an intimate acoustic setting, with Lanyon performing without his usual bandmates for this special one-off show.

The Melbourne five-piece Ceres formed in 2012 and released four studio albums before going on hiatus in 2020, with their final album Magic Mountain (1996—2022) reaching number 14 on the ARIA charts after their 2024 reunion. The band won Victorian Live Act of the Year at the 2020 National Live Music Awards and built a devoted following through their indie rock and indie pop sound across their decade-plus career.

Support comes from Juice Webster for what promises to be an evening of storytelling and stripped-back versions of Ceres favourites. The show represents a departure from the full band experience, allowing audiences to hear the songs in their most essential form. Lanyon’s solo performance will draw from the band’s extensive catalogue spanning from their 2014 debut I Don’t Want To Be Anywhere But Here through to their recent reunion material.

The venue opens at 6:30pm with kitchen service available, and the show kicks off at 8:30pm. Multiple ticket options are available including general admission standing and seating, plus premium packages with reserved tables and meals.
