Brunswick Ballroom and Beefy Ska Club are teaming up for a massive night dedicated to two of music's most joyful genres.
Beefy Ska Club has built a reputation for throwing the kind of parties that leave people talking for weeks, and this one at Brunswick Ballroom is shaping up to be no exception. Celebrating the Union of Reggae and Ska brings together three acts across a huge night of music and movement, and no prior skank experience required, but it certainly helps.
Leading the charge on the reggae side is Ras Jahknow Band, delivering two full sets of Bob Marley classics.
On the ska side, Melbourne institution Loonee Tunes run through the Specials catalogue with the kind of authority that comes from years of doing it properly. Kicking off the night is Operation Big Jake Bosstone, widely regarded as Australia’s premier third wave ska tribute act.

What makes this night worth circling on the calendar is the sheer breadth of it. Reggae and ska share a lineage, a spirit, and a dancefloor sensibility that translates immediately to a live setting. Whether you are a lifelong devotee of Marley or grew up with the Specials rattling out of someone’s bedroom speaker, there is something here that is going to hit.
Brunswick Ballroom is the right room for it too; a proper live music venue that understands what a night like this needs. Get there early, find your spot on the floor, and come ready to move.
This is exactly the kind of Saturday night out that reminds you why live music exists.
