Brisbane’s Beddy Rays channel Green Day and Hockey Dad on their new single, ‘Wait a While’

The loveable larrikins are back with another belter.

After cracking triple j’s Hottest 100 last year when their single ‘Sobercoaster’ hit number 57, Beddy Rays are back with another belter in the form of their latest single ‘Wait a While’.

Out today, the track explores toxic relationships and how easy it is to miss red flags and warning signs when you’re in the thick of an unhealthy friendship or romantic relationship.

“Often people hang around and wait for something to get better, or forsomeone to grow and change but that might not happen. I was writing the song when I was up north and a friend was going through some shit, there’s a shrub up there called Wait a While and when you walk past it grabs a hold of you and you can’t get it off,” says the band’s frontman, Jacko.

“I thought that was a good analogy for the song because sometimes people act the same way, they can grab a hold of you and hold you back from being happy and who you are,” he explains.

Sonically, the single channels the punk rock sounds of Green Day and Hockey Dad, resulting in thunderous drums, thrashing riffs and a distinct Aussie rock tinge.

Despite the weight of its subject matter, ‘Wait a While’ is the kind of singalong anthem that would feel right at home on a festival stage. With a feel-good melody and catchy chorus, you can bet this tune will be stuck in your head after the first listen.
