We chat with BT from Love Police about this devastating loss to Victoria’s Festival circuit.

Set to take place at Our Friend’s Farm on the lands of the Taungurung in Tallarook for three huge days from April 7, 8 and 9, it has been announced that this year’s iteration of the beloved Boogie Festival will be it’s last. A massive blow to Boogie believers and festival fiends everywhere, we chat to BT about the festival’s origin and legacy.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

“The greatest highlight is the community that we have managed to create over the last 16 years,” says BT from Love Police. “It’s been a joy to make new friends slash babies slash weddings slash divorces for the great people of this nation. And it’s all done with love, colour and high vibrations.”

“The idea of Boogie was created at a very hot Meredith Music Festival,” he explains. “In total respect and adoration to Meredith, and super events like Glastonbury and Bonnaroo, we wanted to create a small event where everybody truly knew each other and could Get Down safely and happily.

“We believe the Boogie influence has spread for the next generation of lunatic festival promoters to have a crack in their own backyards, milk sheds and footy ovals of the great state of Victoria and beyond.”

Much like the festival it was conceived at, Boogie is known for its annual traditions, including the Boxwars spectacular, super Karaoke moments, the Clubhouse shenanigans and the Easter Egg hunt.

BT directs the memorable legacy of Boogie: “In the first instance, probably Larry creating the child-like yet graphically superior Boogie logo. That and the curation of superstar and nobody bands and DJs we have helped to foster into people’s good-times-consciousness.”

Of the final Boogie Festival at Our Friend’s Farm, punters can expect “the same old magnificent dribble that has taken people to the outermost reaches of happiness. Like we do every year.

“I also think, there may be a new drink on offer.”

Popular Melbourne eatery 1800LASAGNA will also be curating the late-night musical and scene vibes all the way into the wee hours of the morning.

So, what’s next for the Boogie crew? “World peace,” says BT. “Coupled with climate change.”
